      Viewing Student Progress in Breakout Learning

      Accessing the Assignment Dashboard from Canvas

      1. Go to the Assignments page in Canvas

        • Navigate to Courses > Assignments.

        • Click on the Breakout Learning assignment to review.

      2. Breakout Learning opens in a new window, displaying the following:

        • Assignment Summary – Includes quiz assessments, student sign-ups, and progress tracking.image (9)

        • Results Tab – Shows performance insights on discussion quality, rubric scores, and group engagement.image (10)

        • Students Tab – Lists students along with their individual grades, quiz scores, completion status, attendance, and rubric assessments.image (11)

        • Course Materials Tab – Contains any session content (not relevant to grading).image (12)

      Alternative Access via the Breakout Learning Course Tab

      • Instructors can also click the Breakout Learning tab in the Canvas course navigation to view all Breakout assignments in one place.image (13)

      • Clicking on a specific assignment from this view takes instructors to the same grading dashboard as the Assignments view.

      Viewing Grades in Canvas Gradebook

      Once Breakout Learning syncs grades with Canvas, instructors can view student scores within Canvas Gradebook.

      Steps to Access the Gradebook

      1. Navigate to Courses > Grades in Canvas.

      2. The Gradebook table displays all students and their assignment scores.image (14)

      3. Each Breakout Learning assignment appears as a column in the table.

      4. Clicking on a student’s name allows the instructor to review their individual performance.

      Note: If a Breakout Learning assignment was configured with grading enabled, but no points were assigned in Canvas, the scores will not appear in the Gradebook.
      Ensure all assignments have a point value greater than 0.

      Resyncing Grades from Breakout Learning

      If an instructor updates the point value in Canvas or changes the grading configuration for a Breakout Learning assignment, they need to manually resync grades to reflect the changes in Canvas:

      1. Go to the Breakout Learning tab in Canvas.

      2. Click the Re-sync Grades icon – this will:

        • Check for any grading updates in Canvas.

        • Recalculate and push the correct scores based on updated Canvas settings.

        • Ensure that all scores are properly reflected in the Canvas Gradebook.image (15)
